Lady Huskies top North Wilkes, 9-0

WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County earned their first Mountain Valley Athletic Conference victory with a 9-0 sweep of North Wilkes on Thursday.

“It was a good match for our ladies. Stroke consistency, shot selection and court coverage was much improved in this match,” said Ashe County head coach Larry Dix. “I am proud of their attitude and sportsmanship.”

Ashe (2-2, 1-1 MVAC) will play three matches this week. The Lady Huskies go to Watauga on Monday, host West Wilkes on Tuesday and host Alleghany on Thursday.

West Iredell defeats Ashe, 2-1

STATESVILLE — West Iredell broke a 1-1 tie with a second half goal to give the Huskies their first loss of the season last week.

Rolando Olvera scored Ashe’s goal in the first half.

West Iredell sits at 1-1-1 while Ashe is now 2-1 overall.

Ashe has just one match this week, a trip to Hibriten on Monday.

Twilight League update

WEST JEFFERSON — Furches Evergreens wrapped up an undefeated regular season last Monday with a victory over AEV.
