Women’s golf beats Watauga

BOONE — The Lady Huskies finished the season sweep of Watauga at the Boone Golf Club on Thursday, beating the Pioneers by 19 strokes and claiming the Wood Cup.

Ashe’s Sarah Hardin had the top round of the day with a 45. Teammate Madison Osborne finished second with a score of 51 and Alexis Howell finished tied for third with Watauga’s Morgan Critcher, each golfer firing a 54.

Watauga’s Katie Williams took fifth with a score of 56. Lady Husky Melena Howell finished sixth with a 58 and her teammate Bethany Bare finished tied for seventh with a 59. Watauga’s final two golfers were Elizabeth Copenhaver who finished with a 59 tied with Bare and Alice Knight was ninth with a 60.

In Ashe’s two previous matches, the Lady Huskies finished first at Mountain Aire and second at Cedarbrook Country Club in Elkin.

WEST JEFFERSON — Undefeated regular season champion Furches Evergreens were defeated in the quarterfinal round of the Twilight League Tournament on Sept. 12.

Trey Scott wins Ashe Shrine Club Tournament

WEST JEFFERSON — The 33rd annual Ashe Shrine Club Benefit Golf Tournament took place at Mountain Aire on Sunday, Sept. 18.

A total of 116 golfers competed in this year’s event. Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place closest to the pin competitions and long drive competitions.

This year, Trey Scott finished with a score of 71 to win the Championship Flight.

The Ashe Shrine Club would like to send out a special thank you to the tournament sponsors and all the participants that made the tournament a big success.
